DO I NEED TO TEST?
You need to have a test if you have had unprotected sex. This means sex without a condom or a dental dam.
WHAT IF I KNOW THEY DON’T HAVE AN INFECTION?
It does not matter how well you know someone, they may not know they have an infection. Most infections passed on through sex have no symptoms or symptoms that are so mild that they go unnoticed.
HOW DO I GET TESTED?
You can get your test from Body Positive directly, at one of our outreach sites or by contacting your local sexual health clinic. Testing is easy and painless. Body Positive has two kind of tests:
Tests for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea
If you are under 25 years old these are the infections you are most likely to get through sex. To test you can either pee in a pot if you have a penis or have a swab if you have a vulva (vagina). Swabs are long cotton buds that you apply to the vulva to get a sample. If you have had anal sex you can also swab your bum.
Tests for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis (B and C)
These are a lot harder to notice. Body Positive use finger prick tests which are fast and painless.
HOW DO I GET MY RESULTS?
You can get your results by text message or you can call the results line after two weeks have passed. If a result is positive contact the number given to you in the text or speak to the nurse if you are opting to collect your results by phoning in. All of your information is confidential to Body Positive and NHS Sexual Health in the area you took the test. This means your G.P. will not have access to your information without your permission.
