An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Board as a Trustee.  Use your experience and human resources  skills to help drive and support the charity’s strategic direction and on-going success, making a difference for thousands of people around their sexual health, sexual orientation and gender identity..


About the role

Body Positive  is led by a Board of six passionate and dedicated trustees, who are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity. We are seeking to recruit an additional trustee with human resources experience to support the continued growth of the charity.  This is an unpaid role.


Working closely the Chair and senior management team, you will give oversight to the human resources, internal control and risk management matters of the charity in line with best practice, our governing document and legal requirements, and will volunteer collaboratively with other trusteed to maintain a cohesive, forward looking  and innovative service.


Principal responsibilities

Oversight of budgets, organisational risk and strategic direction of the charity,


Ensuring that the financial resources of the charity are sufficient to meet its present and foreseen needs,


Oversight of the development and implementation of appropriate policies, procedures, controls and risk management processes, to safeguard the charity’s assets and financial position,


Ensuring the Board is aware of its duty to staff, volunteers and service user responsibilities,


Advising on the human resources implications of the organisation’s strategic plans,


Ensuring the Charity complies with relevant fiscal and human resources requirements.


Person Specification

To take up the critical role of Trustee, you will need to be engaged and motivated in the work and mission of Body Positive. Commitment, engagement and reliability are essential to fulfilling your responsibility as a Trustee.  No prior experience of being in a trustee role is required however, previous experience will be taken into consideration when applying.  A an understanding of sexual health and or issues affecting LGBT+ people, their friends and families is helpful.  If you are new to the field or require an update we will provide training where required.


Skills and experience

Hold a human resources qualification, with an understanding of the principal features of charity human resources management,


Experience of human resources in the third sector and risk management,


Capacity to challenge, engage and contribute to the work of the Board in a positive manner,


Ability to build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives,


Demonstrate a consultative, collegiate, constructive and supportive style,


Ability to represent the charity internally and externally,


An understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees,


Embody the values of Body Positive, with a commitment to fairness and to promoting equality and diversity, acting at all times with honesty and integrity.
